One variation of poker that is beginning to gain some notoriety is a version known as Red Dog Poker.
In some places it may also be referred to as Yablon. Red Dog Poker utilizes a shoe made of multiple decks. The numbers of decks can be as many as eight. As the number of decks increase, the house’s edge actually decreases. Each round of Red Dog Poker uses only three cards. The cards have the same values as in a traditional poker game. In Red Dog Poker, the suits do not matter.
To begin the game, players must all ante up. After this ends, the dealer will reveal two cards face up. The hand is considered to be a push or tie if the values of the cards are consecutive. In the event of a push, players get their bets returned to them. On the other hand, if the two cards have the same value, a third card will be dealt. In the event that the third card is also of the same value, then the players win. The payout for this is rather large 11 to 1. If the card doesn’t match the other two, the hand is a push and bets returned.
In some situations, the difference of the two cards may be greater. In this scenario, a spread will be declared. Players may double their bets prior to the revelation of the third card. If the third card is in line with the two cards, then the player will win. If not, they will lose their bet.
